Finding Inspiration

Inspiration is a curious beast, isn’t it? Sometimes it hits you like a thunderclap, while other times it tiptoes in like a shy cat. As a composer, educator, and musician, I’ve learned to dance with inspiration rather than chase it relentlessly.

One of my favorite sources of inspiration is nature. Whether it’s the sound of waves crashing against the shore or the rustling of leaves in the wind, nature offers a symphony that fuels my creativity. I often find myself jotting down melodies that echo the rhythm of the world around me.

Another wellspring of inspiration comes from my students. Their raw passion and fresh perspectives remind me why I fell in love with music in the first place. Watching them explore their own creative paths often sparks new ideas for my compositions.

Lastly, I embrace the art of play. Sometimes, I’ll set aside serious composition work to experiment with different instruments or styles. It’s in these moments of exploration that I often stumble upon something magical.

Inspiration may be elusive, but it’s always lurking just beneath the surface. By opening myself up to the world around me and remaining curious, I can tap into that well of creativity whenever I need it. So, let’s keep our hearts and minds open, ready to embrace the beautiful chaos of inspiration!
